Skype offer a High Speed Conferencing facility. It is a standard conferencing facility, however global access is currently free for Skype users. Participants can join the conference using Skype or dialling the US based conference facility. You don't need a high speed internet connection but if your internet connection is unreliable or very slow, you might want to use a normal phone (see below). Calling via Skype Dial on Skype +99008275230040. But you must first download and install Skype and you need a headset. Headsets (or headphones) are better than speakers because they entirely eliminate any feedback. Please don't use a microphone built into a laptop. It's convenient for you but provide poor sound to the other participants and the microphones pick up disk drive and key stroke noise as well; very distracting for others if you decide to use your laptop while on the conference call. If you are really stuck for hardware and you need to use a built in laptop microphone, please keep it muted except when you are speaking. If you are using Skype for the first time, please make sure that 1) you call 'Skype Test Call and check that you can hear your own voice which is played back to you and 2) dial into the conference 5 or 10 minutes before the official start time so that you, with help, have time to sort out any technical problems. Calling from the US using a phone Calling from particular European countries using a phone Calling from Europe, call: Calling from anywhere else using a phone The conference room number is 5230040. You will be asked to key it in on your phone. Don't bother with the European numbers if calling the US directly is cheaper for you. Call by Skype if possible. Here are the official instructions. Have fun!
