How to post

Registration

You must register an email address with this site before you can post content. You can do this by clicking on create new account on the left hand side. Your ID can be two words e.g. John Smith. When you register, you will receive an email that provides the login instructions. You may have to wait a couple of minutes for your email to arrive.

If you have joined CCC, please use the same email address if possible.

Troubleshooting - I haven't received my password

This sometimes happens. The usual reasons are that:

-Our email with your password is stuck in your spam box. Have you looked for it there?

-You have mistyped your email address. The best thing to do is to do is start again with a new or correct email address.

Don't fight it. Contact details for support by phone or email are here.

Posting new content

You can post different type of content to this web site. Click on create content on the right hand side to see the current list.

post a story

Good for original articles, personal commentary, campaign news, minutes and reports of meetings, news stories and links to news stories.

post a new forum thread

Available only to regular contributors. Should only be started to discuss issues which are closely connected to the campaign such as outreach or are likely to attract a lot of comment. Please check that no existing threads exist (use the search box).

Posting a comment

Make sure you click on the correct reply link. To prevent comments from bunching over on the right hand side of the page, it's best to click on the reply link underneath the original posting. Also, if you reply to someone else's comment and that person deletes their own comment, your comment will be deleted as well!

Anonymous comments are moderated. This is to prevent spammers from posting comments.

Modifying/editing and deleting existing content

Anyone can register with the site and create postings and edit them. Regular contributors are able to edit content written by others or perform admin functions. Just email me (see below) once you have registered if you need to perform these extra roles. The two existing roles are currently 'content editor' for rearranging newsgroups, pages etc and 'image editor' for reorganising the image library.

Getting hold of the user guide

Try the The Drupal online manual.

This is an out of the box installation of Drupal, an open source content management system. Drupal is used by many non commercial organisations including IndyMedia. Here is the change log.

Content Moderation

Postings that directly relate to campaign activities are promoted to the front page of the portal. Regular contributors are able to promote and demote posts.

Postings that receive criticism from regular contributors will be be removed.

Notifications

You can receive new content by email (updated April 2008).

To view or update your subscriptions go to your subscription management page.

You might automatically receive an notification on any updated thread to which you have contributed. You can explicitly subscribe to comments on a post by clicking on subscribe below the post.

Privacy

We do not send any email to your registered address and we will not pass your email address on.

Feedback about this site

Good and bad and much appreciated. Please post directly to improving this web site. Or if you really prefer, email me or info [at] campaigncc.org directly.

Audio Conferencing with Skype

Skype offer a High Speed Conferencing facility. It is a standard conferencing facility, however global access is currently free for Skype users.

Participants can join the conference using Skype or dialling the US based conference facility. You don't need a high speed internet connection but if your internet connection is unreliable or very slow, you might want to use a normal phone (see below).

Calling via Skype

Dial on Skype +99008275230040. But you must first download and install Skype and you need a headset. Headsets (or headphones) are better than speakers because they entirely eliminate any feedback. Please don't use a microphone built into a laptop. It's convenient for you but provide poor sound to the other participants and the microphones pick up disk drive and key stroke noise as well; very distracting for others if you decide to use your laptop while on the conference call. If you are really stuck for hardware and you need to use a built in laptop microphone, please keep it muted except when you are speaking.

If you are using Skype for the first time, please make sure that 1) you call 'Skype Test Call and check that you can hear your own voice which is played back to you and 2) dial into the conference 5 or 10 minutes before the official start time so that you, with help, have time to sort out any technical problems.

Calling from the US using a phone
call # 1-605-475-8500
(long distance charges apply).

Calling from particular European countries using a phone

Italy 0848 390 172
Switzerland 0848 560 152
UK 0870 738 0760

Calling from anywhere else using a phone
call < international dialing code > < 1 > <605-475-8500>.

The conference room number is 5230040. You will be asked to key it in on your phone.

Don't bother with the European numbers if calling the US directly is cheaper for you.

Call by Skype if possible.

Here are the official instructions.

Have fun!

George W Bush Polar Bear : Guardian Cartoon

Glad to see The Guardian political cartoon featuring George W Bush as a distraught polar bear on a little chunkette of ice. Did they copy us ? Or was it such a universally obvious idea to poke fun at Dubya's survival as a parallel to the survival of the cute white furry critters ?

Access to campaign mailboxes (for campaign volunteers)

This information is for campaign volunteers who are handling campaign mailboxes.

The campaign has several IMAP mailboxes which can be accessed by webmail or via Outlook or any other PC mail program.

The steps for webmail access

1. Go to http://www.beershop.org.uk/webmail. Don't try to use the login box on the side of this page.

If nothing happens it may be because you cannot access the non standard port address. Some employers, colleges and libraries block access. In which case, use the proxy server at http://webmail.beershop.org.uk/ instead. (Note: On 18-apr-2007, this is not active).

2. Enter the username and password for the mailbox. The username is the email address of the mailbox, for example

william.shakespeare+campaigncc.org

Valid usernames include

ink+campaigncc.org

You need to know the password for your account!

3. You will be presented with 3 icons for NeoMail, Horde or SquirrelMail. Choose your favourite program or choose any of them; they all do much the same thing. Before you first use the email, make sure you set your name or you will send out email with the sender's name set to 'your name' or worse. If you are not sure, send an email to your personal account first.

4. Make sure you logout if you are sitting in an internet cafe.

The steps for mail access via Outlook

add a new IMAP mail account
set the display name to your own name e.g. William Shakespeare
set the email address of other mailbox e.g. william.shakespeare+campaigncc.org or ink+campaigncc.org
set the inbound and outbound mail servers to mail.cakeshop.org.uk
set the account name to "ccc" or something more useful
set the password
and finallly click on finish.

then click on properties for that account and set the organisation to 'Campaign against Climate Change' or other appropriate name.

You should try sending yourself an email to verify that the account settings are correct.
