Dear John [and other friends interested in Africa and stopping climate chaos]

Thank you for your interest and action in this cause.

On Thursday last week 50 people attended a climate strategy conference at the Commonwealth Club in London. It was organised by the UN focused One-World "Action Committee for a Climate Community" [Peter Luff].
Attendees included Elliott Morley Crispin Tickell, Ashok Sinha and various NGOs such as NEF, Medact and other members of Stop Climate Chaos.

The AFRICA GROUP position for C&C was laid out by Kenya: -
"We support the principle of Contraction & Convergence. A great service to Africa would be if developed countries in Europe and the Americas did too."

The full statement is on page 13 of this document

Considering Kenya hosts COP-12 in Nairobi November this year after potentially 12 million deaths from drought/famine, being with their call for C&C is right.

Ashok took a direct question asking why Stop Climate Chaos as a whole wasn’t with C&C. He replied that 50% of the members are and that the other 50% are still trying to figure out where they are.

On Wednesday next, at the UN negotiation in Bonn, the Africa Group lays out its case again. I am glad to be there contributing to their event: -

Tony Blair has intervened and with Gordon Brown and BONO said “Africa’s voice must be heard.” New Minister at DEFRA David Miliband has just said that “C&C is a beautiful model”.

After 20 years of Africa’s voice being heard but not listened to, I am not holding my breath.
