The Liverpool Campaign against Climate Change meeting/talk on the 17th of November was a great success, defying attendance expectations. We counted 81 people, and it looked like the main hall of the Friend's Meeting House was almost too small! The crowd was wonderfully mixed, with locals out-numbering the students. After the four speakers (in order) Frank Kennedy, Professor Richard Bradshaw, Dr Sarah Mander, and Jonathan Neale, there was a Q&A and discussion which went on until we had to leave the hall at 9:50! There was praise that the speakers had included both climate scientists and climate activists, something one person remarked that he had never seen before. I now have plenty of e-mail contacts for getting an organising committee together for future meetings and probably a Liverpool climate demo. The campaign is definetly on the map in Liverpool now! I was concerned that I wouldn't fill my coach in the next two weeks, but everyone reassured me at the meeting that we will easily fill it. The coach will have 49 people on it, and many people I've spoken to say they are making their own way down, so I'd estimate that there'll be at least 80 people from Liverpool at the march on December 3rd. Thanks to everyone who attended, and a special thanks to the speakers who had faith that the event would be a success. |
