Greater Manchester Campaign against climate change got off to a fine start at Manchester Town Hall. Over 100 people came to hear a varied panel of six speakers followed by a lively questions and contributions session. There was Dr. Alice Bows, a scientist from the Tyndall Centre for climate research, Councillor Neil Swannick, Manchester's executive member for planning & environment, Jackie Turner from RESPECT and Anne Chapman from the Green Party. The Manchester community choir gave us a Zulu thunderstorm song, followed by a Hawaian earth blessing, after which we heard from Mel Jarman an environmental journalist from Red Pepper & finally Phil Thornhill, co-ordinator of campaignCC. The local TV station (Channel M) filmed the meeting and did a good news item the following evening. NOW WE ARE ORGANISING FOR A GOOD MANCHESTER TURN OUT ON DECEMBER 3RD.
