Plug for CCC web-site in Guardian - 11th November

I just wanted to say that I had a letter published in yesterday's Guardian (Sat. 11th Nov.) in the 'Money' section with a plug for people to use any extra spare time to help CCC campaign against climate change and they even printed CCC's web-site address! I didn't win the £25 book token though!

Personal Effects Question:

"I want to reduce my carbon footprint, but almost all of the virtuous changes that I might make mean I will have more money in my pocket. If I take fewer flights, spend less on food miles, insulate my house and use only public transport I will have lots of spare cash. How do I spend it without producing more CO2?"

My answer:

"Yes you are right that all of these changes you make in your lifestyle will lead to more money in your pocket, and you are right that if you then spend this extra money you will emit more CO2 because research has been done to show that approximately for every extra £5,000 earned per year people emit an extra 1 tonne of CO2. The answer to this dilemma is simple - take a part-time job or reduce your hours and use the spare time to campaign against climate change. There are many non-profit organisations campaigning on this one issue who are run by volunteers and who would be very glad of your spare time and energy. See: www.campaigncc.org for further details."

Not all of the above was printed in the paper though...
