The One Tonners

Hello fellow climate campaigners - just thought I would post a piece about 'The One Tonners' and my new blog, to be found at: http://theonetonners.blogspot.com. The 'One Tonners' bit refers to George Monbiot's recent workings out where in order for us to all have a fair share of the atmosphere we in the over-developed countries need to reduce our emissions to One Tonne of CO2 a year (90% of current 10 tonnes a year of CO2 in the UK). George says we need to do this by 2030 but I say we can reduce by 80% NOW! Why wait? Anyhow any tips for helping the people of Gloucestershire to become One Tonners will be gratefully received. It would be great if other counties could take this up too - I am going to show videos by DJs etc. (that remake of 'Brick in the Wall' one is especially good) and hope to create a feeling that it is 'cool to be low carbon' - maybe that may get through to some younger people that way? Again any tips gratefully received. Cheers, Cathy.

Cathy is a One Tonne Star !

Cathy,

Really excellent. 10 out of 10 and a gold merit !

You are a One Tonne Star !

No, no, I don't mean your PERSONAL SIZE, it's not a reference to your GIRTH or your ADIPOSE....it's a reference to your CAMPAIGN WEIGHT.

Keep up the good work in 007 : Climate Action Year.

Merry Things.

one tonners or carbon rationing

Cathy

I love the logo but what is the difference between the one tonners and the carbon rationing action groups?

John

Beauty in Diversity

Just to answer John : I think there's room for many diverse small groups all working on the same kinds of things.

In my area we might be running an EcoTeam or a BLACKOUT group, in your area you might be running a Carbon Rationing Action Group or a Transition Town.

In Duncan's area there is already a Climate Action Group, which again, is not quite the same, but working along the same lines.

If we have to be part of one big happy movement before we can be active and effective, then we might have to wait a long time.

I'm sure the One Tonners (GREAT NAME !) are going to be connecting and linking with the other groups that exist in a networky kind of way, as things mature, as information is shared, as people talk, as things emerge.

Even with big happy movements, local groups have different flavours, and administration is needed in each area, so it's just like having a separate group really, with a different name.

Let's cooperate. Not compete. Not dominate. Not jostle for the limelight. Not dismiss others.

And can someone from the nearest Carbon Rationing Action Group get in touch with the One Tonners to encourage them and share ideas ?
