u4d8 : United for December 8th

PLEASE SEND THIS MESSAGE TO YOUR CONTACTS

On 8th December 2007, the Global Climate Campaign is calling for the largest international marches and public meetings on Climate Change that the world has ever witnessed.

The Climate Change campaign is bringing people together from all political strands and social concerns, and the messages are becoming more clear and more united.

u4d8 is an independent support group for this year's day of action on Climate Change.

Our primary target audience is all those who are members of social, faith, environmental, aid and development organisations, but everyone with a personal concern is very welcome to join in.

We aim to communicate December 8th to all campaign and issue groups, to encourage them to inform themselves about the day's Climate Change events, and hopefully take part.

We want to cross all the ideological and organisational borders that keep people from coming together on a public call to action on Climate Change.

We want to invite everyone, whatever their brand or creed, to join in and make this a truly collective day of democratic action.

We are united.

WHITE FLAG

For those people that cannot attend a march or rally, we want to offer them the chance to flag their support in a variety of ways.

One of the things we are asking people to do is to hang a white sheet, flag or handkerchief out of their windows at home on the day.

We are also asking them to wave a white flag in the street and put up white flags in public places.

This is to remind us of the way that people called for help in New Orleans during the devastation and chaos that followed in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

We want to wave that flag for all the victims of Climate Change, including people in Africa, Europe and Mexico suffering from major flooding.

We want to wave that white flag calling for help on behalf the people in India, Greece, Australia and the American South West, suffering extended drought, wildfire, crop failure and water shortages.

Waving a white flag is also the international sign of surrender - and we are calling on people everywhere to surrender their stubborn attitudes and let go of their precious energy-hungry lifestyles

Waving the white flag is to show that we agree to Carbon Dioxide Rationing, Trading or Taxation, whichever can be made to limit net Carbon Emissions.

PLEASE NOTE

u4d8 is completely unaligned to any political ideology, movement or campaign. It exists solely to promote and support December 8th as the international day of public action on Climate Change.

CALL TO ACTION

It is time to put a lid on Greenhouse Gas Emissions.

We need to put a cap on Carbon Dioxide, by reducing our use of Coal, Oil and Natural Gas, and by protecting the world's forests.

It is time to ask each Government in the world to put in place policies to halt rising emissions, immediate measures to prevent further Climate Change.

It is time to cut our demand for Carbon Energy and it is time to stop buying the destruction of old growth forest.

It is time to invest in Sustainable and Renewable Energy, and stop wasting Power.

It is time to have either Carbon Rations, Carbon Taxes or Carbon Trade, whichever can be made to work.

It is time to have a price for Carbon.

It is time to increase diplomatic effort and heal divisions between political enemies.

It is time to hope, but also time to take action.

You have within you the power to resist damage to the environment. You can speak, you can write and you can move. And if you cannot move, someone else can move you to where you need to be.

All the human systems of governance, agriculture and trade must be changed, and you are a part of that change.

Without you, the whole future of life on Earth is at risk.

Please take action on December 8th, either in a public event with others, or on your own at home.

Call for wisdom, peace and clarity.

Call for sensible policy, a proper focus on Climate Change, and full scientific evidence.

Call for an end to unregulated economic activities that pollute the Planet.

Call for a price on Carbon, and Carbon regulation in every nation.

Climate Change is a global concern. We call on all nations and all peoples to act.
