Even more press mentions of the march!

Dear all

Good to see so many lovely photos! Have a look at these press mentions - these are just a few, there are more. Most of them, if they mention numbers, say about 10,000.

Newspapers:
There was also a 2 page spread in the Independent on Sunday on pages 6 and 7, plus a smaller article in the Observer on Sunday.

Coverage in British Press

Having skimmed the broadsheet Sunday papers today (after a much-needed lie-in following yesterday's excitement!), I can confirm that there were small mentions of the marches in the Sunday Telegraph, Sunday Times, and Observer; and a really good 2-page spread of analysis and photos in the Independent on Sunday. Further, the IoS dedicated its leading editorial article to the demonstrations. Good old Independent!

Good Indymedia article and photos

Sunday Mirror vs. Independent on Sunday

The following snippet appeared on page 27 of Sunday Mirror whereas '100,000 lined the streets of Belfast' filled pp 2-5.

However The IoS positioned the stories respectively on "home news" pages 6-7 and... 13. Now that's Independent!

4 December 2005
WAR OVER WARMING
THOUSANDS of UK demonstrators took to the streets yesterday as part of a worldwide protest over the threat of global warming.

Almost 10,000 people marched through London calling for Government action on climate change.

The demonstration coincides with other events in 32 countries and with crucial UN talks in Montreal.

Phil Thornhill, march co-ordinator, said: "We need an international treaty to deal with climate change."

The UN talks follow the Kyoto Protocol in 1997, which urged a 30 per cent cut in emissions by 2020.
