Can we persuade Alan Simpson to stand as an independent?
Alan Simpson, MP for Nottingham South, has declared an intention to stand down as a Labour MP at the next election - BBC News.
Does anyone agree with petitioning him to stand as an independent 'anti-greenwash' candidate? This is, after all, someone who practises what he preaches.
"In a letter to his constituency party members, the MP said a Gordon Brown-led premiership would be even worse.
"Mr Simpson, 58 and first elected for Nottingham South in 1992, said there were "not enough" good Labour MPs.

Biofuelwatch: please write to your MP - be quick!
Biofuelwatch now has an MP-writing action with suggested letter.
Please write to your MP to oppose any further biofuel target announcements at the present time (such as risk occurring as part of the Government's 10-year carbon budget or in the pre-budget statement), to call for a moratorium on fresh liquid biofuels earning Renewables Obligation certificates, to ask him or her to sign EDMs 2680 and 1568 in the current parliament, and more.

Energy Security ? G8 Summit in St Petersburg : July 2006
As almost everyone in the entire world knows, the G8 are meeting in St Petersburg in July 2006. And the big topic will be "Energy Security", and some people are saying "Energy Security ? More like Energy Destabilisation !" and having a little chuckle about the fact that Russia thought it was simply fine to throw its huge Gas Weight about at the start of the year in its little pipeline prices spat with its next door neighbour.
The Big Ask Campaign now has a bigger majority than Labour!
More at the workshop at 12 o'clock on Saturday.
This Autumn is an exciting time for climate activists in the UK. The 4th of November look set to be the biggest climate demonstration the UK has ever seen and in September/October activists have real chance to get a new law which would make the UK the first country in the world to set a legally binding Carbon budget. This would set a cap on emissions and a pathway of annual reduction targets. The new law is the Climate Change Bill, which Friends of the Earth have been campaiging for over the last year. But to get it through Friends of the Earth (FoE) NEED YOUR HELP. You may have already filled in a red postcard asking your MP to back the Climate Change Bill. But for the next stage of The Big Ask campaign Friends of the Earth is calling on climate activists to visit their MP in person.
